How proximity keys differ
A smart key exchanges an encrypted challenge with the car whenever it is nearby. Consequently the doors unlock on touch and the engine starts on a button press. Furthermore, there is usually no blade in daily use, though most fobs hide one for emergencies. Therefore losing a smart key removes both entry and starting at once.
Why programming takes longer
Encryption means the vehicle and key must establish trust rather than simply match a code. Consequently the process runs through the diagnostic port with manufacturer-level access. Moreover many platforms impose a security wait during all-keys-lost. Therefore a smart key job typically takes longer than a transponder one, even when everything goes smoothly.

The hidden blade nobody knows about
Almost every smart fob contains a mechanical emergency key. Additionally, most vehicles hide a keyhole under a plastic cap on the driver's door handle.
