How Urban Locksmith prices work
Every job is quoted on the phone before anyone leaves. Consequently the figure you are told is the figure you pay. There is no after-hours surcharge, no weekend rate and no travel fee across the 47 areas we cover. If the job turns out to differ from what you described, we stop and agree the change with you rather than continuing.
Why we quote by phone rather than publishing a fixed list
A lockout on a standard residential cylinder and one on a high-security restricted keyway are different jobs. Consequently a single published number would be wrong for one of them. Therefore we ask a few questions and give you a real figure.
What changes the price
Lock type, door construction, distance, and whether a key already exists. Notably, a spare car key costs a fraction of an all-keys-lost job. Consequently the same vehicle can be two very different prices.
Typical starting points
House lockouts and car lockouts generally start around the low hundreds. Meanwhile rekeying is priced per cylinder and falls sharply when several are done together. Key duplication for a house key is a few dollars, whereas a car key involves cutting and programming. Above all, these are starting points rather than quotes, and the phone call gives you the real number.
What we will not do
We do not quote low to win the booking and re-quote at the door. Consequently if a figure sounds implausibly cheap elsewhere, that is usually why. Furthermore we do not drill a lock because drilling is faster, and we do not sell replacement hardware when the existing lock can be cleaned and rekeyed. Therefore you will sometimes be told the cheaper option even when the expensive one was available.
