How it works
After-hours locksmith work is not a different service. Instead it is the same work at a less convenient hour. However, plenty of firms treat the clock as a pricing opportunity. Urban Locksmith does not. Therefore the rate quoted at 2am matches the rate quoted at 2pm.
- Step 1
You call
Any hour. A technician answers, not a machine.
- Step 2
Price agreed
Same rate as daytime. No overnight premium.
- Step 3
ID checked
Photo ID or registration, even at 3am.
- Step 4
You are in
Non-destructive entry wherever possible.
What after-hours actually means here
Some companies define after-hours as anything past five. Consequently a 5:15pm call attracts a premium. Urban Locksmith has no such threshold. In fact there is no evening rate, no overnight rate, and no holiday rate. Because a lock does not care what time it fails, neither do we. Moreover the same technicians work the night calls. Therefore you are not handed to a subcontractor once the office closes.
Why after-hours calls take slightly longer
Traffic is lighter at night, so driving is quicker. However, other things slow the job down. Firstly, poor light makes fine work harder, so technicians carry proper lighting. Secondly, cold metal behaves differently, and a frozen cylinder needs warming before it will turn. Thirdly, apartment buildings often lock their common doors overnight. Consequently we may need building access arranged before reaching your unit.

No. People get hurt doing that, and the glass costs more than the callout.
Staying safe while you wait
If you are locked out at night, wait somewhere lit and public where possible. A neighbour, a lobby, or a running car all beat a dark side entrance. Furthermore, tell us on the phone if you feel unsafe, because that changes how we prioritise the call. Above all, do not force a window. People injure themselves that way every winter, and a broken window costs far more than the callout.
What Urban Locksmith needs from you overnight
The same as during the day. Photo ID matching the address for a home, or registration for a vehicle. Naturally this feels tedious at 3am. Nevertheless it is exactly the check that stops a locksmith opening someone else's door. Additionally, having your building code or fob to hand speeds things up considerably in apartment blocks.
Questions about after-hours locksmith
Do you really charge the same overnight?
Yes. Urban Locksmith adds no after-hours, weekend or holiday surcharge. Therefore the quote is the quote.
Will someone actually answer at 3am?
Yes. You reach a technician rather than an answering service.
Is it safe to wait outside?
Wait somewhere lit and public where you can. Moreover tell us if you feel unsafe, because it changes how we prioritise.
Can you get into my apartment building overnight?
Your unit door, yes. However, common doors need building authorisation.
Should I just break a window instead?
No. People get hurt doing that, and the glass costs more than the callout.
